A Unique Experience
We try to make your experience as unique and personal as possible by giving you the chance to let us know your favourite animal. Whenever possible we will do our best to ensure that you spend time with your chosen animal and its keeper, including a public Animal Encounter such as Wallaby Feeding Time, Meet the Big Bugs and Beasties etc. Please remember that this cannot be guaranteed owing to the nature of livestock, staff availability and the public programme of events which may not fit in with your day's schedule.
The remainder of your day will be filled with animal husbandry around Tropical Wings and might include all or some of the following: domestic and exotic mammals, birds, reptiles, butterflies and bugs.
Every day is different!
This is a general introduction to being a zookeeper which might include an opportunity to meet a barn owl, feed a giant cockroach, clean out an enclosure, cuddle a rabbit ...... The list is endless!
You may be helping the keepers care for some of the Pets Corner and Farmyard animals such as rabbits, guinea pigs, fancy rats, chipmunks, ponies, donkeys and goats. Or perhaps you will find out how we look after the more unusual mammals such as wallabies, otters, skunks, lemurs, meerkats, marmosets etc. The falconers might teach you some of the special words used in falconry, how to tie a falconer's knot or even hold a bird of prey!
Over the course of the day you will meet the various keepers of different sections and will assist them in their daily routine. We will always try to include time with your favourite animal. General animal care varies, but may include food preparation, grooming, health checks, animal enrichment and enclosure cleaning. In all cases you will get to know the individual animals in our collection, discover how to handle them (if appropriate) and more about the species in general.
- You will also help to feed the animals, and this may even include participating in a public presentation.
- Your package includes a voucher so that you and your adult can enjoy a delicious lunch in the Butterfly Tea Rooms.
- Your experience concludes when you receive your certificate, and you are then welcome to join the public and stay for the remainder of the day at Tropical Wings.
- All junior keeper experience sessions start at 11.00am and finish at 2.45pm.
ALL INCLUSIVE COST: £120.00
