HARRIS HAWK
Parabuteo unicinctus
HABITAT: Sparse woodland or semi-desert
STATUS: Not Threatened
DESCRIPTION:
Also known as Bay-winged hawks, Harris hawks are unique raptors in that they hunt in cooperative groups, preying on small mammals up to the size of a full-grown rabbit, birds and occasionally reptiles and carrion.
They build a simple platform nest of sticks, twigs, weeds and roots and lined with moss or similar, rarely more than 10 metres (30 feet) above the ground where they lay between two and four eggs.
