LAUGHING KOOKABURRA
Dacelo novaeguineae
HABITAT: Woodland
STATUS: Not threatened
DESCRIPTION:
The Kookaburra is also known as the Laughing Jackass or the Bushman’s Alarm Clock.
Kookaburras are the largest members of the kingfisher family and prey on small birds, reptiles and insects. They are known to drop snakes from a great height or beat them on a tree branch until they are unconscious before swallowing them whole.
They incubate their two to four pure white eggs in hollow tree trunks, tree holes, or in excavated termite nests.
