MARBLED POLECAT
Vormela peregusna
HABITAT: Grasslands
STATUS: Vulnerable, Locally Endangered
DESCRIPTION:
Marbled Polecats are among the rarest of the Mustelids (the family which includes skunks, ferrets, otters and badgers).
Like the skunk, Polecats have scent glands which can be used when the animal is in mortal danger.
Being nocturnal (night-time) creatures, Polecats rely on a keen sense of smell while out hunting for their food, which can be small mammals, birds, eggs, fish, reptiles and even fruit.
