The Tropical House

Tropical HouseTake a walk inside our spectacular TROPICAL HOUSE on any given day of the year and no matter what the weather is like on the outside, on the inside you will be instantly transported to an enticingly exotic, lush, humid, Tropical Rainforest - and you won't even need a passport to you get there!

Within the Tropical House you will have the chance to glimpse some of the world's most exotic and vibrantly coloured butterflies. Watch as they fly freely overhead, feed and possibly even land on you, as you walk through our beautiful tropical oasis with many different species present at any one time from around the globe.

Tropical HouseAs well as all the stunning butterflies and other insect life on show within the Tropical House, we also have some splendid water features including some very large, landscaped deep water ponds, a tranquil waterfall and fish ponds stocked with huge Koi carp.

BirdHowever, beguiling butterflies, incredible insects and fascinating fish are by no means the only residents to be found within our Tropical House as it is also home to an eclectic mix of Reptiles and a variety of free flying Birds for you to gaze and wonder at - whilst hopefully learning many facts about the status of these wondrous creatures, out in the wild!

Erato Iguana

We hope that a visit to our Tropical House will truly captivate your imagination, and once you have enjoyed your time inside, there is still so much more to see - outside!

Take a quick tour to see what we have to offer you when you leave the Tropical House.

Caterpiller Corner

Visitors can observe the amazing lifecycle of a Butterfly in Caterpillar Corner, where you will be able to witness this elemental process in action.

Postie Caterpillar

On a daily basis you can watch as the newly formed butterflies emerge from their chrysalises and take their first few wing-beats into the world.

Cocoons

Also to be found within Caterpillar Corner, we have many other wonderful creatures including an incredible colony of Leaf-Cutter Ants, which are possibly the smallest residents to be found here at the Zoo. Theses ants are also very special in another way, because they are literally, the only species on the planet (other than humans) to actively, grow, produce and eat their own food - and you can see them doing it right before your eyes!
