GENERAL INFORMATION

Tropical Wings at South Woodham Ferrers, Essex, is set in acres of attractive gardens and features one of the largest butterfly houses in the country.  There are many different species of birds, insects and animals, and we pride ourselves on encouraging interaction whenever possible.

A daily programme of Animal Encounter sessions will entertain, educate and introduce you to wildlife face to face, with plenty of chances for relaxation in the serene surroundings. 

Livestock includes free-flying butterflies, rare and exotic parrots, marmoset monkeys, minibeasts, red squirrels, wallabies, owls, skunks, meerkats, ponies, reptiles, otters, birds of prey, pets corner and farmyard area.

We have a large children’s play area, undercover picnic areas and Discovery Kingdom ~ a large indoor arena where learning comes to life!

Tropical Wings is fully accessible to wheelchairs, and is therefore also ideal for those with limited mobility.  There are toilets for the disabled, and baby changing facilities.

PRIVATE SESSIONS
We can provide a variety of Private Encounters which are not open to the general public.  These sessions are more in-depth than the Animal Encounters which take place throughout the day at Tropical Wings. If you would like to book a Private Encounter please contact us for more information so we can offer you an encounter which suits your individual needs.  Whenever possible we will try to include a hands-on experience with livestock during these sessions, but Tropical Wings reserves the right to omit this on occasions when it is deemed necessary, owing to the nature of livestock.   
PLEASE NOTE: We are unable to offer private sessions during weekends and school holidays.

           
GOODY BAGS
Our gift shop is well stocked with many items at pocket money prices.  However, many groups with children have found that it is much easier and fairer to order our goody bags at just £3.00 each (contents may vary but will include at least 5 items totalling a value greater than £3.00).  It is also much less time-consuming, leaving the children longer to enjoy their visit.  Goody bags must be ordered in advance (see booking form) and may be collected from Reception at any time during your visit.          

BUTTERFLY TEA ROOM

Delicious hot and cold home-baked refreshments are available from our Tea Room.  Please ensure that your party booking for the Tea Room is made at least a week in advance of your visit.  Contact the Tea Room directly on 01245 329259.  A £20 deposit will be required at the time of booking (Tea Room only).
